Camp Hapitok, Where every child is understood.

Hapitok Goes Green!

This year our camp theme is "Hapitok Goes Green". We are going to focus on being an environmentally friendly camp, and taking steps to make Hapitok Green.

What does "go green" mean??

To "go green" does not imply jealousy or envy. To go green does not imply being grumpy like Oscar the Grouch. To go green does not imply to date only folks whom are Irish. It does not even mean to take a leap of faith and begin kissing all the Kermits in the world.

To "go green" means take
care of where you live- Earth. Is that defined as chaining yourself to a tree in front of an impending massive bulldozer? No. Is it defined as using only products not tested on animals? No, again.

Going green means having the three R's become a part of your life. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

Going green means paying attention to where your food comes from, and how its grown.

Going green means noticing how and when we can reduce our environmental footprint, and taking action to be able to make minor adjustments, that make major impact
In our adventures in becoming "green" this year, we need YOUR help!

Do you have ideas on changes we can make to be a "green" program?

Current ideas include; safe/reusable water bottles for Campers, TIGRs, and Staff, using cloth napkins at meals, and swapping out the regular lightbulbs for CFL bulbs in the cabins.

TIGRS: Click here to email us at gogreen@camphapitok.org to submit your ideas. Each idea will earn one point for your family, points will be tallied between now and June 23, 2008 with the winning family earning a fabulous prize during TIGR Orientation! Think carefully and submit your ideas to us soon!

Not a TIGR? We'll take your ideas too - if you know a TIGR you can include thier name in the email, and we'll transfer the points accordingly!
